Pelynt Village
The nearest village to Cartole is the historic village of Pelynt with its links to Bishop Trelawny and ancient barrows and Iron Age settlements. The name is derived from the Cornish Plyw-Nynt meaning Parish of Saint Non and the village is mentioned in the 11th century Domesday Book. It is recorded as paying 40 times the taxes of nearby Looe., how times have changed!
The village is well served with two churches, a pub two shops, two hairdressers, garage, social club, gift shop and boarding kennels.
Saint Nun Church
St Nun is part of a group of five parishes in South-East Cornwall located along the Fowey Estuary from Bodinnick to Polruan, on the coast at Lansallos and Talland and inland at Lanreath and Pelynt. All our services are characterised by clear bible teaching although our styles of worship are rich and varied ranging from open air family services on village greens and quays to more formal liturgical services including the prayer book.
